Charitable Giving and Charities
Many of our clients have strong relationships with charitable organizations. We work with our clients to structure charitable gifts to achieve their philanthropic goals and maximize the available income and estate tax benefits. We have actively promoted planned giving for several decades and have significant expertise in the design and administration of charitable remainder trusts, charitable lead trusts, charitable gift annuities, foundations (both private and publicly supported). We work with the charities our clients wish to support to structure gifts, to make certain that funds are properly utilized, and to ensure that the client receives appropriate recognition for a gift or legacy.
We have formed and represent a number of public charities, whom we assist with planned giving, administration of bequests, and compliance issues. We work closely with the Charities Division of the New York Attorney General’s office, which also represents all New York based charities. We have worked with a number of charities that raise funds for institutions outside of the United States, such as the American Committee for the Weizmann Institute of Science (www.acwis.org), of which Lawrence S. Blumberg is General Counsel.
We regularly advise charities and meet with their staff and donors concerning estate planning and charitable giving issues.
